A wide range of styles –
With the versatile options available, flooring tiles can be used in any space to maintain a consistent look.
Tile care and maintenance:
The maintenance needs of tiles vary based on the type that you choose for your space. First and foremost, it is a good idea to seal the grout after the tiles have been laid. This is especially necessary for natural stones that require a higher level of care. Regular cleaning with warm water and mop can be done to maintain your tiles. Stone tiles must be dust mopped and vacuumed and the use of harsh chemicals must be avoided. It is best to use a mild detergent or a pH neutral cleaner. To further protect your tiles, you can consider using floor protectors on your furniture.
A step-by-step guide to laying a new tile:
Successfully installing a tile requires preparation of the surface and an understanding of the techniques to be employed. We bring to you secrets that can make the process of laying tiles easy.
Prepare the surface –
The first step is to ensure that the surface in which you intend to install the tiles is clean and dry.
Measure the surface –
Measuring and marking the datum line will help you to place the tiles straight and in a symmetrical manner.
Mix the adhesive –
Mix the powdered adhesive with water to attain a moderate consistency. If it appears to be thin, add more adhesive and if it is thick, add more water to it.
Dry lay the tiles –
Before actually beginning the process of laying the tiles, it is a good idea to lay the tiles on a dry surface to get an idea of what the finished floor will look like. The tiles can be laid with reference to the datum line. The tiles must be evenly placed and if necessary, the datum line must be adjusted.
Lay the tiles on the surface –
The adhesive must be applied between the datum line and the wall and the notched trowel must be used to increase the surface area of the adhesive. The adhesive must also be applied to the base of the tile following which it should be placed on the surface and pressed.
Place the tile spacers –
The tile spaced must be inserted between rows of tiles. This helps to add a professional finish and keeps the grout lines straight. For larger tiles, two spacers must be used. After the adhesive dries, the spacers can be removed.
Cut the tiles –
The distance between the laid tile and wall must be taken and marked on both sides of a new tile. The cutter must be used to break the tile along this line. The tile must be then placed on the adhesive. This process needs to be repeated for all the tiles.
Complete laying the tiles –
In this manner, the tiles must be laid. It is necessary to ensure that the tiles are flat or have the required inclination to allow water to drain. If you notice that a tile is above or below the level, lift them and accordingly remove or add adhesive to bring them at the same level. The excess adhesive must be cleared from the surface with the help of a damp cloth to impart the perfect finish.
